Beauty Trends Spring/Summer 2016

Hi There,

With Christmas behind us it’s time to look forward to Spring/Summer beauty trends and there were plenty of fun looks on the S/S16 catwalks. Here are the most coveted looks and the products I use to achieve them…..

Feeling Blue

118870-41235825_2139719514_n

Blue/Turquoise Statement eyes were all over the catwalks for spring/summer. Wear as a bold block of colour on the lid or simply line your peepers with a subtle smudge of Navy Kohl instead of Black. My favourite products are as Follows:

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise in Cleopatra – £22.00

This is a fantastic Deep Green/Turquoise cream Eyeshadow. This little pot will last you a long while as just the tiniest amount goes a long way!

Charlotte Tilbury

Bellápierre Eyeshadow in Starry Night – £9.74

Available from Amazon this shimmery dark Blue powder is perfect for taking that party look to the next level. As this is a mineral powder it is highly pigmented you only need the tiniest amount.

Bellapierre starry night eyeshadow

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in LSD £15.50

This Eye pencil is fantastic for giving a sparkle to your look. This is a navy pencil with a bold Blue glitter running through it. It’s subtle but gives your eyes that perfect party pop.

LSD

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Sabbath £15.50

Perfect for when subtlety is key. A deep navy eyeliner with a matte finish. This is a great eyeliner for smudging out into a smoky eye.

Sabbath

Black Graphics

imgres

Spring/Summer sees the return of grunge inspired eye looks. Bold graphic eyeliner was extremely popular or for a subtle look simply tightline your waterline. Smudging your liner is a must this season too. Any black eyeliner is great for this look

Bat those lashes

tumblr_nwot7vEeDd1qmyebso1_1280

60’s style lashes are in this season. Think less feather-like and more spidery when it comes to your lashes. For those of you wishing to stand out from the crowd go super clumpy and be a real show stopper! Get the look with these mascaras:

Maybelline Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying mascara – £ 7.99

I love this mascara, it’s a real drugstore steal. It builds thickness and lengthens your lashes. Add several layers to get that thick spidery lash effect.

lash sensational

MAC False Lashes Extreme Black – £19.00

This Mascara is my everything right now! It builds volume and lengthens your lashes and just makes them 100% perfect So much so that people have asked if I’m wearing falsies when all I had on was this. I highly recommend this mascara to everyone.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Xtreme Black Mascara – £6.99

Again this is a great drugstore mascara and gives your lashes a great curl. Great for giving your lashes a dramatic day-time look.

Scanadaleyes mascara

Going for Gold

imgres-1 images-2

Metallics are not just for the festive season and were well and truly rocked on the s/s catwalk. From bold Golden lips to subtle washes of metallic colour on the eyelids, make it as daring or as demure as you like! These are the products that are set to make you sparkle…..

Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow stick by Kate in shade 100 Rose Gold £4.49

This is great for adding a touch of glamour on the run. As it’s a stick it’s easy to apply and can simply be smudged out with your fingers for a day-time look or layer for the Wow factor.

rimmel kate shadow stick

Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow in 05 Eternal Gold – £4.99

This cream Eyeshadow is super intensely pigmented and will give a really high dose of colour to your lids. Great for a nighttime look.

colour tattoo

L’Oreal Paris colour Riche Mono Eyeshadow – £5.49

This is a really great versatile colour. It can be used for a subtle day look or layered to create a glitzy golden eye. Fantastic value for money.

L'oreal gold

Perfect Pout

OscardelaRentaSS16

The classic red lip is everything this spring/summer especially in a matte finish. For a day-time look simply pat on the lips with your finger to give yourself a subtle hue. These are my favourite Matte Red’s perfect for spring…….

Maybelline 14hr Superstay Lipstick in 540 Ravishing Rouge – £6.99

This is a really nice matte red lipstick. It wont break the bank and gives a nice subtle wash of colour.

Maybelline 14hr lipstick

NYX Soft Matte lip cream in Amsterdam – £5.50

This is a beautiful Corally Red. It does take a little while for it to mattify on the lips but when it does, it pretty much stays putt. Really highly pigmented and a beautiful bright red which can take you from the office to cocktails.

NYX amsterdam

NYX Matte Lipstick in Eden – £5.50

This is a lovely Blue based Red. It feels really nice on the lips and isn’t drying. It’s also cheap as chips so what more could you want?

Nyx matte lipstick

MAC Lady Danger – £15.00

A stunning Orange based red this is a show stopper. Beautifuuly bright and unapologetic it’s definitely for someone who likes to be noticed.

Lady Danger

Beautiful Blackberry

imgres

Forget peachy pink girly tones this spring and think dark, daring and edgy. The Berry lip trend is still going strong this season with Burberry going for ‘the darker the better’ approach, while Anna Sui went for a beautifully feminine red berry shade.

Sleek Makeup Eau La La – Shade Venom £4.99

I adore this lip pencil. It can be used on it’s own as an all over lip colour but I tend to use this every time I apply a berry lip. It’s so versatile and the formula is wonderfully creamy. Highly recommended.

eau la la

NYX Soft Matte lip cream in Transylvania £5.50

I love a nice dark berry lip and this is one of my favs. I am a huge fan of anything horror/gothic so the name of this product is just perfect. A nice dark plum colour.

NYX transylvania

NARS Velvet Matte Crayon in Damned £18.00

This is a nice subtle berry shade. It’s more pink than purple which makes it a fantastic daytime berry shade.

Nars lip pencil

Urban Decay Matte Lipstick in Blackmail £15.00

I adore this lipstick. It’s the deepest shade of Berry that I own and I love it. I tend to wear it on special occasions where I’m attending a gothic event or want to unleash my inner goth chick. A stunning colour!

urban decay blackmail

Inner Glow

7d490286d4bdc99be11cf585089f56a6

The phrase being banded around this season is ‘Gym Skin’. So forget those thick full coverage foundations and allow your natural glowing skin to shine through with a BB or CC cream.

It is all about illumination and making the best of your skins natural features. Freckles are also huge this season. Don’t have freckles? Simply add some using a brow/eyeliner pencil but don’t get too carried away they need to look natural.

Clarins Instant Light radiance boosting complexion base in 01 rose £26.50

I have wrote about this before, this product looks like your skin is lit from within. It gives your skin a beautiful rosy pink highlight and smells absolutely delicious.

Max Factor CC Instant Complexion Enhancer in 50 Natural £9.99

I wore this a lot last summer. A light to medium coverage this is definitely a your skin but better product. I wore this over my Clinique Super City block for high SPF coverage with a subtle amount of colour. I love it.

MAC BB CREAM

MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30 £25.00

I really liked this last year so I’m bringing it back again. It counteracted my redness really well without looking cakey. It is quite a greasy formula so I would recommend setting it with a powder. But a great product to carry in your hand bag.

So they are all the trends to get you through Spring/Summer 2016! Which trends will you be rocking? What are your favourites? Let me know!

Selfridges Beauty Calendar 2015!

Hi Guys,

The festive season is now upon us and that means I can finally open my Christmas Advent Calendar! U usually always purchase the You Beauty advent calendar but when I looked this year it seemed to contain all the same things I had last year so this year I opted for the Selfridges Beauty calendar.

Selfridges launched two calendars this year. A premium calendar that cost £95.00 and that unfortunately sold out right away and then the Beauty Workshop Beauty Advent Calendar that cost £60.00, which is the one I went for.

At first I was going to post each day about what was behind each window but I went to London for the weekend so was unable to open my advent calendar so I just figured I’d post a weekly overview about the contents of the calendar.

So these are the goodies that were waiting for me behind those little doors this week:

IMG_8697

Day 1: Time Bomb Take-Off Time Cleansing Cream 30ml

I love a good a cleanser and this is a brand I have never tried before. An exfoliating cleanser that buffs away dead skin, what more could you ask for?

I am yet to try this product but it has now been added to my cleansing drawer so I’ll post an update once I’ve tried it.

IMG_8700

Day 2: Rodial Dragon’s Blood Sculpting Gel

I was so excited to get this. I have tried Rodial Products in the past and have really enjoyed them and this is a range I that has been on my radar but I have never purchased it as this product carries a £79.00 price tag. Now I finally get to try it without having to shell out so much money.

IMG_8722

Day 3: Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation 7.5ml

I have received this product before in a beauty box and quite liked it. It is a mineral based SPF that evens undertones and minimizes wrinkles and the appearance of pores. Although I didn’t notice any difference in the appearance of my pores I did like the silkiness on my skin and I enjoyed using it as sunscreen.

IMG_8724

Day 4: Carmex Moisturising Lip Balm

This came in limited edition packaging, which was quite fun. I’m not a fan of Carmex as it is quite tingly on my lips, which I don’t like, but my Boyfriend was more than happy to take this off my hands.

IMG_8728

Day5: BareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara

This travel size Mascara is perfect for carrying in my handbag, taking my daytime eye look to a more intense evening look. I love the twisting wand, which is unlike any wand I’ve seen before. I cant wait to try this!

IMG_8729

Day 6: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Gold Glitter

This is perfect for Christmas time. The website says to use in your hair or sprinkled onto wet nail varnish. This item is not safe to use on the eye area but would look great applied over lipstick for an intense party look!

IMG_8730

Day 7 – Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel

This is a foaming gel cleanser, which will be perfect for using with my Clarisonic Brush. Another fantastic product!

I can’t wait to see what this next week brings! Which Advent Calendar are you guys currently opening? Let me know!

July Favourites!

Hi There,

I can’t believe we are already in August. 2015 is just flying by! It’s that time of the month again – favourites time. I don’t have a lot of beauty favourites this month but quite a few random favourites instead. So these are my July Favourites…

11539788_10153573152123755_5536428947361553773_n11817163_10153625043843755_5543323862104975850_n-1

Purchases: I am obsessed with buying notebooks. I love writing lists and as such, I always have plenty of notebooks on the go. I have them in my desk, in my handbag and in my bedside drawer. I find the best places to buy notebooks are Paperchase and Homesense.

I recently went to Homesense and picked up three notebooks. The first was a Lined bright ideas light bulb notebook for £3.99 and then I also picked up two notebooks by Campo Marzio, which is an Italian brand. I liked these because they have bright coloured covers and the pages inside are a bright contrasting colour. They were £1.99 each, which I though was a steal.

11377156_10153440149088755_6529354795201824079_n

Beauty: I have two beauty favourites this month. The first is the Spa Wisdom Hand & Foot Butter by The Body Shop. I used to love this product years ago when I used to work for The Body Shop and I have recently fallen back in love with it. It contains Honey and Beeswax to soften skin and smells of cocoa butter. So yummy!

11822387_10153602892363755_129999148852423122_n

The second beauty favourite is a lipstick. It is the Maybelline sensational lipstick in Vibrant Violet. I first saw this used in a youtube tutorial by Drac Makens. It’s a really nice Matte Purple but unfortunately this colour is not stocked in the UK. I did contact Maybelline to see if there would be a UK release but there are no plans to release this shade over here.

I purchased mine on ebay and it cost around £10.00, which included shipping from the USA. It really is a beautiful shade. It’s a real shame that it isn’t coming to the UK market.

BeFunky_IMG_20141010_142717909.jpg-1

Youtube: Although I am a girly girl I definitely have an affinity for anything dark and gothic. I am obsessed with all things Halloween/Gothic related.

This month I fell in love with gothic youtuber Drac Makens. She is so talented when it comes to gothic makeup. Her looks are amazing. If you guys are into Gothic culture & makeup I would definitely check her out she’s awesome!

maxresdefault

Television: This month my boyfriend and I started watching Black sails. It’s an Amazon Prime original series about Pirates and at first I thought I wouldn’t like it but I really got into it. The characters are really well portrayed and the plot is full of twists and turns. Definitely worth a watch!

girls next door

The second TV series I got into is ‘The Girls next door”. This is a reality series that follows Hugh Hefner and his three girlfriends Holly, Bridget & Kendra throughout their everyday life at the playboy mansion. After reading Holly Madison’s autobiography I really wanted to re-watch this series and you certainly view it from a very different perspective after reading Holly’s book.

1296902085_new_scientist_2011_02_05_downmagaz

Magazine: I used to read this magazine all the time back when I was studying my Biological & Environmental Sciences course, and I am so glad I picked it up again. It is a weekly magazine filled with informative and thought provoking scientific articles. This is available in print & on Newsstand for the iphone & ipad priced £3.99.

So those were the things I watched, read and bought throughout July.

What were your July Favourites? Let me know in the comments.

June Favourites

Hi There,

I know we are nearly Mid-July but I really wanted to let you guys know what I was loving throughout June so here are my June favourites:

Beauty Favourites:

rimmel whikte_Fotor

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation with Comfort serum

This for me is by far the best drugstore foundation available. It offers full coverage, doesn’t feel heavy on the skin & has great staying power.

This may be a little controversial but I prefer this foundation to Estée Lauders Doublewear. It doesn’t separate throughout the day and covers all my imperfections.

I even wore it during June’s heat wave & it didn’t melt away. The best thing for me is that it is available in Bodycare for only £4.99! Fantastic foundation for fantastic value!

elemis doe

Elemis Wild Lavender Hand Lotion – 195ml

This is part of the Sp@home range by Elemis. The line offers spa quality products that you can indulge yourself with in the comfort of your own home. I received this as part of a hand care duo (with the matching hand wash) as a Christmas present. As anyone who is regular at my blog will know, I am a little obsessed with hand cream (and Elemis).

I keep this on my desk in my office to use throughout the work day as I find the scent really relaxing and it’s a nice daily indulgence. This hand lotion is available at Debenhams.com or your nearest Elemis stockist priced £18.00.

palette done

MAC Burgundy times nine Eyeshadow Palette

In June MAC released their Eyes on MAC collection. This collection comprised of four miniature Eyeshadow palettes, each containing 9 small MAC eye shadows.

The colours are not limited edition, they are just popular MAC eye shadows but in a sample size. I personally found this great for trying out colours before committing to the full size pans. I bought the Burgundy palette, as I have green eyes and the shades really compliment my eye colour. The palette was made up of a mixture of Mattes and shimmers. My favourite colour was ‘Antique’ (I have since purchased the full sized pan). I love this palette so much that I also bought the Purple times nine set too. These palettes are also available in Navy times nine and Amber times nine from www.maccosmetics.co.uk priced at £30.00 each.

cooling Mist 1

Beauty Formulas Instant Cooling Mist 150ml

As I have mentioned June was an extremely warm month in the UK. As our homes very rarely come with air conditioning it was stifling! As a natural red head I do not cope well with the heat, but this spray really helped me. I used it mostly at night when the bedroom was overly humid. This spray is basically water in an aerosol can, but as it sprays it is cooled so it delivers a nice cold mist. It’s great for spraying on restless legs and on the face. For an extra cold blast I kept mine in the fridge. This spray is available from Poundland for £1.00 per can (Bargain!).

8303565_fpx

Issey Miyake Summer Eau de Toilette 100ml

I first came across this perfume about ten years ago and I have loved it ever since! As the name suggests this fragrance is released every spring/summer time and each year it has a different bottle design. The bottle is always the famous Issey Miyake cone design but the decoration varies. This is a very light, fresh scent and is perfect for anyone who loves, fruity floral fragrances (say that ten times while drunk). The notes are as follows:

Top Notes: Pink Grapefruit & Lyche

Heart Notes: Passionfruit & Guava

Base Notes: Vanilla infusion & exotic wood

This perfume is only available in the 100ml size and is available from Boots.com priced £39.50 for 100ml.

Now onto my Non-Beauty Favourites…

kelsea-ballerini-the-first-time-album-cover-630x630

Music – Throughout June I really got into country music which I have never really listened to before. Thanks to spotify I have made myself a great country playlist but I found myself repeatedly listening to one album and that was “The First Time” by Kelsea Ballerini. Kelsea is a relatively new artist, who has toured with Taylor Swift, and you can definitely see the Taylor influence in her Music. Songs to check out are “Love me like you mean it’ and ‘Yeah Boy’.

rupauls-5

TV – RuPauls Drag Race

I adore this show. This is the second time that I’ve binge–watched all the seasons (there are 7 seasons). Think Americas Next Top Model but with drag queens – it’s fabulous!

jurassic-world-logo

Movie – This was a hard one as there were a few great Horror releases this month but I have to go for Jurassic World. Fast paced action, combined with great special effects made this a great movie. I challenge you to watch this film and not want a pet Raptor by the end of it!

cold_cup_ss_logo_0

Item – This has to be my new Stainless steel Starbucks cold cup. I first saw these in America but I totally forgot to pick one up so when I saw them in the UK I had to have one! It is a large double walled cup with a stainless steel straw that keeps drinks ultra cold for hours, which was a must in the hot weather. Available from your nearest Starbucks or at www.starbucks.co.uk priced £14.95.

11406559_10153461710623755_1333937948161269211_n

Event: This has to be my birthday. I turned 33 this year so I wanted to do something low key and girly, so I opted for afternoon tea at the Vincent Hotel Restaurant in Southport.  The sandwiches were delicious and the cakes were out of this world! Afternoon Tea at the Vincent Hotel costs £12.95 per person or £20.95 per person with Champagne.

Visit www.thevincenthotel.com for details.

So that was everything that has floated my boat throughout June. Let me know what your June favourite were in the comments.
