A Long weekend away.

Hi Guys,

Last weekend my Boyfriend and I went to London for the weekend. Partly, for pleasure but mostly for Business. We were attending London Edge on Sunday so we figured we would make the most of it.

London Edge is a trade Fair for Alternative, Gothic & Vintage fashion. It’s a chance for us to see new product releases from our existing suppliers and also to discover new brands.

We traveled down to London on Friday and stayed at the Holiday Inn at Regents Park. We were upgraded to an Executive room for free, which was nice.

I don’t know if I have mentioned it before but at home we don’t have a bath we just have a shower/wet room, so when we go away I always make the most of having a room with a bath. Before we left for London I made sure that I had stocked up on Lush Bath products and the first thing I did when we got to the hotel was run a bath.

Friday evening my Boyfriend had made plans for us for date night but didn’t tell me what they were until we got to the venue.

Every time we go to London we always try to catch a burlesque show or go to theatre and he had booked us tickets for a Burleque/variety show. It was hosted in the Rah Rah Rooms which is a Drag/Cabaret venue. There was a Burlesque troupe called the ‘It Girls’ that performed with the fantastic singer/burlesque performer Tempest Rose.

The variety show also had a comedian, a magician, a contortionist, a fire eater and an acrobatic performance on silks. It was such a fun show and we had fantastic seats, the cocktails were good too!

After the show we went to the ‘Angus Steakhouse’ for dinner. Unfortunately the meal wasn’t great. My steak was undercooked, the mash potato tasted awful and while we were there the waiters somehow managed to drop two lots of orders on the floor. The service was really slow too and they gave us the wrong bill at the end of it all.

Saturday was a nice relaxing day, we went for dinner at ‘Steak & Lobster” on Warren Street and had the most delicious steak & Ale pie – it was so good.

We then went to the ‘Grant Museum of Zoology’ at UCL. It was so interesting. They had lots of jars full of animal species and cabinets full of skeletons. They had an elephant skull that was huge, and a bell jar containing an Elephants heart that was bigger than a beach ball.

If you are looking for something interesting to do in London then I recommend coming for a look around, it’s free admission but you can give donations. You an also sponsor the exhibits.

After the Museum, I went to Space.NK to pick up some of the Oskia Renaissance cleansing gel and I really wanted to pick up the Becca Champagne pop but they were sold out so I purchased the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder is shade Euphoric, which is a really nice highlighter.

We then went back to the hotel to relax for a little while and I had another bath (with more Lush Goodies). We went out for dinner to Fat Lorenzo’s Kitchen & Bar for a nice Italian Meal.

Sunday was super busy. We went for Breakfast at the Riding House Café on Great Titchfield Street. The food here is amazing and I highly recommend the French toast with a side of Bacon. I would say it’s best to book in advance as it does get really busy (we were unable to get in at all on Saturday morning).

After breakfast we checked out of the hotel and headed to the Olympia for the London Edge show. It was nice to chat to our suppliers face to face and we placed a few orders with new suppliers, which was exciting.

After London Edge we stopped off at the Ace Café, which is a biker café. My other half has always wanted to visit, as it is well known in the biker community (my other half rides a Harley). The ace café do the best toast by the way, it was so good.

When we left the café we drove up to Birmingham for the Spring Fair (another trade show) at the NEC. We spent Monday and Tuesday at the spring fair placing orders and finding new brands. It was very tiring but lots of fun. Come Tuesday afternoon, I was so happy to be heading home. We had lots of fun in London and Birmingham so I wanted to share it with you.

I hope you enjoyed it.

August Glossy Box!

Hi Ladies,

I have now had a chance to test most of the products in my August Glossy Box, the theme of which was Glossy Box’s Birthday Box.

The First thing I noticed was that Glossybox has changed their magazine into a fold out card, very much like Birchbox have, which I actually prefer.

contents

I received six products in my box this month, three of which were full sized products. Here is what I received:

highlighter

Product 1: Kryolan Highlighter for Glossybox 4.5g £12.95

This was the first full sized product I received. It is a cream highlighter. I don’t use highlighter all that much so it is more than likely going to be used as a light pink toned cream eye shadow. It is a nice silky cream that blends on to the skin nicely. This product is also fragrance free, or at least I didn’t think it smelled of anything. I give this product 7/10 as it will come in handy as an eye shadow.

hand cream

Product 2: Figs & Rouge Rose Berry Hand Cream 20ml

I like that this was a miniature, as I like having Miniature hand creams in my bag as they take up less room. The full sized product comes in an 80ml tube and costs £6.95. The Tube is brightly decorated in vibrant colours, which I found really fun.

This hand cream had a nice sweet sherbet scent and was a nice thin formula which was absorbed into my skin quickly which is just what I like, I’m not a huge fan of greasy hand creams. The product contains Shea Butter & Algae Extract, which are great for keeping the skin soft and supple. I give this product 9/10 as I really liked it.

nail polishrose

Product 3: Yves Rocher Nail Polish in 14 Rose. £3.60 3ml.

This was the second full size product, which I found hard to believe as it is the smallest bottle of nail varnish I have ever seen! Size aside, this was a nice dusky pink colour, which dried quickly. I would say that you would probably need two coats of this, as the first coat was quite streaky. I give this product 6/10. The bottle must have 2 applications in it if that, and I would expect more than that for my money.

philip kingsley

Product 4: Phillip Kingsley Elasticizer 40ml: Full size 250ml £38.00

This is the one product I have not had a chance to try out yet as my Scalp problem is flaring up again so I didn’t want to chance using anything that would make it worse. I understand that this is a cult product and you use it as a mask, putting it on the hair for 20 minutes before washing your hair as usual. I cannot give this a mark out of ten, as I haven’t tried it. I look forward to giving it a go when my scalp calms down a little though.

c15

Product 5: Skin Pep Super C15 7ml £13.99 (full size)

This was the third full size product but again the bottle is tiny. This is a serum that is supposed to protect your skin against UV rays. I found the instructions a little worrying as it says when used during the day you have to wear with a sunscreen as it can cause photo-sensitivity. This isn’t really an issue for me as I always wear an SPF daily, but to be on the safe side I applied it at night, mixing 2 drops in with my moisturiser. The Protection is said to last a minimum of 72 hours, which I think is great.

The only downside to this product is the smell. It smells musky, a bit like damp. You can apply this serum straight to your skin but after putting a small drop on the back of my hand I could smell it for ages afterwards, I’m glad I mixed it with moisturiser when applying it on my face. I gave this product 5/10 I knocked a few marks off for the smell!

Perfume

Product 6: Lalique Parfum 2ml: Full size £67.00 for 50ml

This perfume was quite nice but really overpowering. I put it on in my office, which is a relatively small room and it gave me a headache after a while so I had to wash it off. I think if applied in a well-ventilated room it may be ok. I wouldn’t buy this perfume, as it’s a lot of money to spend on a perfume that will possibly give you a bad headache after an hour or so. I give this 5/10

Over all I wouldn’t say I was blown away by this month’s Glossy box, there were some nice products though, like the Hand cream and the Highlighter. Less Hit and more of a Miss this month for Glossybox I’m afraid.

April Glossy Box – Sweet Treats!

glossybox1glossy mag

When I heard that the theme for April’s Glossybox was going to be Sweet Treats I expected pastel coloured products with sugary sweet names so I was little disappointed when I opened the box to find nothing of the sort but there were some good products in the box.

Product 1: Emite Make Up Lip Brush (L312) Sample worth: £17.00

I was quite happy that I received this product as it seems like a nice brush and it’s one that I can pop in my day make-up bag that I take to work. I would say this was probably my favourite product in the box.

lip brushmonu oil

Product 2: Monu Spa Warming Ginger Massage oil (30ml) Sample worth: £7.50

If I’m honest this product took me by surprise. I usually hate anything that is ginger scented/flavoured (ironic as I am Ginger 🙂 ) but I really liked this. It has a lovely warm spicy scent but isn’t too strong. It also felt nice on my skin without being too greasy. Overall an enjoyable product

Product 3: Me Me Me Beat the blues Highlighter (12ml) Sample Worth: £5.50

This is a product that I wasn’t over the moon about. Mostly because I already use Benefits High Beam and this product just doesn’t meet Benefits standard. The consistency is really thin and the effect is so subtle it’s practically non-existent. This is definitely not going to be working its way into my make up bag.

me me me highlightertresseme dry shampoo

Product 4: TREsemme Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo (100ml) Sample Worth: £2.50

Now this is a product going straight into my handbag. What girl doesn’t need dry shampoo in a manageable handbag sized can?!? I love getting products that are useful & handbag sized.  So this was great for me.

Product 5: He-Shi Professional Tanning (50ml) Sample Worth: £7.95

Unfortunately I took one look at this product and gave it away. This is a fake tan product for Medium skin. I am a red head with fair skin (as I put on my beauty profile) so this product made no sense to me. I don’t use fake tan products and if I did I certainly wouldn’t use a medium shade. This was a disappointment but was perfect for the person I gave it to so they gained from this mismatch.

Overall I would say I was happy with the contents of my Glossybox this month. Lucifer on the other hand just loved the wrapping…..
