Selfridges Beauty Calendar 2015!

Hi Guys,

The festive season is now upon us and that means I can finally open my Christmas Advent Calendar! U usually always purchase the You Beauty advent calendar but when I looked this year it seemed to contain all the same things I had last year so this year I opted for the Selfridges Beauty calendar.

Selfridges launched two calendars this year. A premium calendar that cost £95.00 and that unfortunately sold out right away and then the Beauty Workshop Beauty Advent Calendar that cost £60.00, which is the one I went for.

At first I was going to post each day about what was behind each window but I went to London for the weekend so was unable to open my advent calendar so I just figured I’d post a weekly overview about the contents of the calendar.

So these are the goodies that were waiting for me behind those little doors this week:

Day 1: Time Bomb Take-Off Time Cleansing Cream 30ml

I love a good a cleanser and this is a brand I have never tried before. An exfoliating cleanser that buffs away dead skin, what more could you ask for?

I am yet to try this product but it has now been added to my cleansing drawer so I’ll post an update once I’ve tried it.

Day 2: Rodial Dragon’s Blood Sculpting Gel

I was so excited to get this. I have tried Rodial Products in the past and have really enjoyed them and this is a range I that has been on my radar but I have never purchased it as this product carries a £79.00 price tag. Now I finally get to try it without having to shell out so much money.

Day 3: Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation 7.5ml

I have received this product before in a beauty box and quite liked it. It is a mineral based SPF that evens undertones and minimizes wrinkles and the appearance of pores. Although I didn’t notice any difference in the appearance of my pores I did like the silkiness on my skin and I enjoyed using it as sunscreen.

IMG_8724

Day 4: Carmex Moisturising Lip Balm

This came in limited edition packaging, which was quite fun. I’m not a fan of Carmex as it is quite tingly on my lips, which I don’t like, but my Boyfriend was more than happy to take this off my hands.

Day5: BareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara

This travel size Mascara is perfect for carrying in my handbag, taking my daytime eye look to a more intense evening look. I love the twisting wand, which is unlike any wand I’ve seen before. I cant wait to try this!

Day 6: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Gold Glitter

This is perfect for Christmas time. The website says to use in your hair or sprinkled onto wet nail varnish. This item is not safe to use on the eye area but would look great applied over lipstick for an intense party look!

Day 7 – Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel

This is a foaming gel cleanser, which will be perfect for using with my Clarisonic Brush. Another fantastic product!

I can’t wait to see what this next week brings! Which Advent Calendar are you guys currently opening? Let me know!

August Favourites!

This month I have had quite a lot of Non-Beauty Favourites that I have been loving.

If you follow my blog on a regular basis you will know that I love Books & reading.

I would go as far as saying I prefer reading a book to watching TV, so this brings me onto my first to favourites this month which are both Book based websites.

read-swap-free-book-library-10379977

I love using kindle it’s a great way to take large amounts of books away with you but my true love are paperbacks.

Normally when I finish reading one I will give it to a friend or take it to a charity shop but now I’ve fallen in love with www.readitswapit.co.uk.

This is a website where you swap your unwanted books with other users. All it costs is the shipping cost for you to send your swapped book to another member.

It’s a fantastic and environmentally sound way to get new books and get rid of any unwanted reads.

good reads

My second website & App is http://www.goodreads.com which is a website where you can track all the books you have read and get great book recommendations.

They also have a reading challenge where you can enter how many books you want to read in 2015 & it tracks your progress to let you know if you are on schedule to meet your goal or not. I entered that I wanted to read 40 books in 2015! I am currently ahead of schedule, which is good to know. The app is available for free from the app store.

Following on in the book theme, another august favourite has been the Author Jonathan Aycliffe. I only recently heard of him but I have been enjoying his books throughout August – A great author for anyone interested in Ghost story/ Supernatural books.

I only have two beauty favourites this month. The first was the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette that was released this month I’ve already blogged about it, so I wont repeat myself but this is a fantastically versatile palette with something for everyone.

My second Beauty Favourite is the Almond & Milk Hand Cream by Burt’s Bees. This is quite a thick greasy formulae s it wont be to everyone’s liking but I apply it first thing in the morning. I don’t tend to reapply throughout the day because it is so greasy but it leaves my hands feeling really soft and smells so good!!!

My final favourite is another App. Ever since I was a child I have always found the noise of a vacuum cleaner really relaxing, same with a hairdryer or fan. This is because these sounds are white noise and mimic the sound of the womb.

Recently I’ve had trouble switching off at bed time and relaxing enough to fall asleep so I downloaded an app called ‘White Noise’ and you can set it on a timer so that once you fall asleep it turns itself off. These kinds of apps are usually targeted at Babies but they really work and I really recommend them for anyone struggling to sleep.

That concludes my favourites for August. What are your favourites? Let me know.

August Birchbox – First Impressions

birch box

This week I received my August Birchbox and the theme was #BeautyJunkie. The Birchbox itself came covered in little Beauty Emoji’s, which was just adorable. Inside the box there was seven items in total. These were a mixture of beauty products, a beauty bonus and a lifestyle item.

Rituals scrub

The first Item was the Rituals fortune invigorating body Scrub with Sweet Orange & Cedar. I was really happy that I received this in the box because this item was in last month’s empties and I haven’t had chance to repurchase yet so this was a great product to receive.

Blush

The second item I received was a Lord & Berry Blush in the shade #8214 Lotus. I really like the monochrome packaging it’s so cute. The Blush is a Dusky Pink colour that I think will suit most skin tones. It came just as a pan, which is means that you can add it to any magnetic palette. I have tried this, and I found that it was highly pigmented and a little does go a long way. It can be blended out for a subtle look or built up for a more striking look – another fantastic product.

face exfoliant

The third item I got was the Huygens Le Gommage visage, which is an exfoliating cream for the face. I have a love/hate relationship with facial exfoliants. I love to try them but my skin hates them. This scrub uses rice powder particles to buff away dead skin cells. By the looks of it, they do seem to be quite large grains, which have a tendency to irritate my skin so I probably won’t be giving this a try. The packaging is cute though.

kebelo shampoo

The fourth Item I received was the Clarifying Shampoo by Kebelo. This isn’t a brand I have ever heard of before so I did a little research. They are a British company and the product themselves are manufactured in the UK which I love. This shampoo works by removing any product build up on your hair while at the same time nourishing the scalp. It recommends that you use this product twice a month in the same way you use regular shampoo. I’m looking forward to giving this a try for sure.

LM Mascara

The final beauty product in the box was the Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Supreme mascara. I love Laura Mercier bath & body products but I always falter when it comes to makeup products. Unfortunately this mascara didn’t change that. This mascara claims to Curl, lengthen and Volumize lashes I personally thought it did none of those. For me this was a very basic mascara and I personally think there are much better mascara’s available in the drugstore.

The Extra Beauty Bonus was the Grab & Go Ponytail Holder by L. Erickson. This is a hair tie that is metal free and won’t snag your hair. This band retails for £11.50. To me this is just so expensive. You can go to Primark and buy a large pack of metal free bobbles for £1.00 and still have £10.50 to spend on makeup, which makes far more sense to me.

emoji stickers

The Lifestyle bonus this month was a sheet of cute emoji stickers that match the decoration of the box. The design of the box and the stickers are by far the cutest I’ve ever received from Birchbox. Although there were one or two items I didn’t like in the box I would say that overall this was a really good box. Super cute and with seven items inside it was well worth the money. Well done Birchbox!!

New Product Purchases

Over the last two weeks I have bought quite a few new products so I wanted to share my purchases with you guys. So these are the items I added to cart…

Blush by 3 done

Sleek Blush by 3 in shade 366 Pink Sprint (£4.99)

I picked this up from the sleek website where it is currently reduced from £10.00 to £4.99!

I was drawn to the bright colours of this blush trio. The first shade is called pink parfait but I found that this is more of a rich Burgundy red colour. The second shade, Pink Ice is a nice hot pink colour and the final shade is Pinktini, which is a dusky purple/pink. As with most sleek products these are highly pigmented colours, a little definitely goes along way. On my pale skin they are quite bright but are easily blended for a nice subtle flush. They are so versatile so would suite darker skin colours too. They would also make fabulous eye shadows.

sleek mystic done

Sleek True Colour Lipstick – Mystic 783 (£4.99)

In the past I have purchased Pout paint from sleek and I love them but I have never purchased lipsticks so this was my first one and I was impressed. The matte black packaging is so adorable. Recently I have been obsessing over Purple lipstick and I have purchased quite a few over the last few weeks. I wont go into too much detail as I am going to do a blog post about them but I will say that this lipstick is perfect for anyone looking for a Pinky purple lipstick shade.

Mac Heroine done

MAC Matte Lipstick – Heroine (£15.50)

This is an iconic purple lipstick and was a must for my collection. This lipstick is a darker blue-based purple that is a truly beautiful pop of colour.

mac concealer done

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer 9ml – NW20 (£17.50)

This is a great concealer, and this is a repurchase for me. It’s really creamy and covers my dark circles perfectly and suits my warm tone.

naked case donenaked smokey done

Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette (£38.00)

I am not going to do a full swatch and review of this palette because in all fairness it has been done to death by pretty much every beauty blogger. However this is a perfect palette for ladies who like to rock a smoky eye on a regular basis. I will go ahead and list the shades and their finishes below for you:

High – This is a champagne coloured shimmer

Dirtysweet – A beautiful Rose gold shimmer

Radar – This is a Taupe colour with a Micro Glitter finish

Armor – A dark brown metallic glitter

Slanted – A slate Grey coloured shimmer

Dagger – A charcoal micro shimmer

Black Market – A Black satin finish

Smolder – A deep plum shimmer

Password – Cool Brown/Grey Matte

Whiskey – A Tan/Brown Matte

Combust – Pinky Taupe Matte

Thirteen – Beige/pink satin

There really is something for everyone in this palette

black mail stood doneblackmail stood

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick – Blackmail (£15.50)

When I went to collect my Naked palette I was introduced to these Lipsticks. All the colours in this range are amazing. I fell in love with Blackmail, which is a beautiful Purple/Black colour. It really is hard to find a nice wearable black colour but this is just perfect. I will definitely be purchasing more in this range.

all nighter done

Urban Decay All Night Make up Setting Spray (£9.00)

I have heard nothing but good things about this product and now I understand why. I felt this spray really did lock my base in place all day. I also found this really refreshing on the hot days we had over the weekend. It’s oil free & Paraben free and has a subtle, fresh scent. A definite repurchase.

24 7 dlide on

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye pencil in LSD (£15.50)

This is a nice glittery Navy colour. I’m not usually a fan of anything with glitter in it but this was so fine that it looked more like a shimmer. This pencil is perfect for adding a subtle pop of colour to your day look or can be smudged out for a colorful twist on the smoky eye.

***** The Ladies on brand counters don’t always get the praise that they deserve so I would just like to take this moment to give a shout out to Nikee at the Urban Decay counter in Debenhams, Preston. She is always extremely helpful and is so passionate about the Urban Decay products. She always knows the products that I’ll love, and makes buying from Urban Decay a pleasure! Thanks you so much for your help Nikee, I appreciate it!!!

Those are all the products that have been added to my collection over the past couple of weeks. There are quite a few but I don’t usually purchase so many in such a short amount of time which is why I wanted to share this mini haul with you. Have you purchased any of these products? If so, which ones? What products have you purchased recently? Let me know!
