June Book Review ….

Hi Ladies,

I was thinking about doing a June Favourites but I thought I’d do something a little different and do a post about the books that I read in June instead.

In June I managed to read 3 Books, which I know isn’t a lot but I have been very busy. I am a huge fan of horror and Ghost stories. I do delve into chick-lit every now and again but because I do most of my reading at night when I’m in bed I want something spooky and a little bit scary. I’m sorry if this genre of books doesn’t interest you, you’ll probably find this post pretty boring 🙂

I keep a reading journal so that I don’t lose track of the books I read and it allows you to give a star rating out of 5 for each book, you can get your journal here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/What-Read-Red-Mini-Journal/dp/0307407233/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405271160&sr=8-1&keywords=what+i+read.

So here are the books……

this house is haunted

Title: This House is Haunted

Author: John Boyne

Format: Paperback but is available on Kindle.

Purchased: Tesco

Thoughts: This book is a good old-fashioned ghost story. Set in 1867 it follows Eliza Caine a governess that goes to look after two small children at Gaudlin Hall.

As soon as she arrives spooky experiences start happening.

If you love The Woman in Black then you will love this story. I found it really creepy and I don’t usually like my books to be set in the past but I really liked this one as it is written in modern terms and not in Victorian English. I don’t want to write out the plot, as I don’t want to ruin anything for those of you wanting to read it.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. This book is available from Tesco & Amazon.co.uk

silence of ghosts

Title: The Silence of Ghosts

Author: Jonathan Aycliffe

Format: Kindle

Purchased: Amazon.co.uk

Thoughts: This book is set during World War 2. The story is set around a soldier who is wounded in the war and has to return home to London. As the war is raging in London he is sent away to the second Family home in the Lake District with his deaf sister. Soon after moving into the house his deaf sister begins to hear voices, and other spooky experiences ensue. This book is centered around the ghosts of children, which I always find extra creepy. Again this is just a really great ghost story.

I gave this book 4 out of 5, as I really liked it.

grave sight

Title: Grave Surprise

Author: Charlaine Harris

Series: Harper Connelly Series

Format: Paperback

Purchased: Cannot remember where I purchased this but is available on Amazon.

Thoughts: The premise of this book is a young woman gets struck by lightening and this leaves her with the power to find dead people. This book is written by the same author as the true blood series, so I knew that I would like it.

This is book one in a three book series. It’s much more lighthearted than the two ghost story books. The main Character Harper Connelly is a sassy; no nonsense chick and I really liked it I couldn’t put it down. I gave this book 5 out of 5.

I am definitely going to read the next two books.

So these are the books that I read in June. I have already read two books in July that I will put up next month. Let me know if you enjoy reading book review blogs, if not then please let me know what you do like reading xxx
